Where Military Experience Creates

Positive Change

Empowering Veterans. Building National Resilience. Transforming Young Lives.

How We’re Making a Difference

The Veterans Volunteer Service is a registered charity harnessing the unique skills and experience of military veterans to build stronger communities across West Sussex, with initiatives nationwide. Through our veteran-led programs, we’re creating positive change while providing veterans with ways to continue their service to society.

What Do We Stand For?

Military Excellence

We proudly welcome infantry and all arms veterans who bring invaluable experience from their colour service, conflict zones, and Hearts and Minds campaigns. Their unique combination of military expertise and human understanding makes them exceptional mentors in our community programmes.

Community Unity

Our veterans are transforming communities through their unique understanding of duty, service, and resilience. By bridging generations and backgrounds, they’re creating lasting positive change in areas where it’s needed most.

Supporting Veterans

Our comprehensive welfare program ensures veterans receive robust support at every step of their journey from military to civilian life. The programme is led by our Head of Welfare, recognised as NHS Armed Forces Champion of the Year for Sussex, Kent and Medway, reflecting our commitment to veteran wellbeing.

Our Programmes

Project Somme

As our cornerstone initiative, Project Somme preserves our military heritage while uniting regimental associations, veterans’ organisations, and charities in a shared mission of remembrance. This vital initiative creates pathways for veterans to become instructors, ensuring our history and values continue to serve and strengthen communities.

Fit ‘n’ Feed

This flagship program combines professional boxing and kickboxing circuits with character development through sport. Veterans lead training sessions that build both physical fitness and community awareness, while providing free, nutritious meals to young people in areas where food security is a daily challenge. Building and nourishing the local youth.

Youth Focus Group

This 10-week course empowers young people through practical skills and character development, delivered by veterans in schools and academies. Veterans draw on their unique military experience to teach effective communication, community responsibility, emergency first aid, and blue light handovers – all tested under challenging scenarios to build real-world confidence.
